NAWMBA Holiday Party - December 2011
The Holiday Party (and the second Mentoring Program event) was held at the new Don Julio's on Westheimer from 6pm-9pm on Friday December 2nd. We had the entire upstairs reserved for us, which included 2 outdoor patios. There were appetizers and drinks available for everyone and the atmosphere was casual and festive. Guest speaker Radu Filip spoke on behalf of the National Association of Women MBA's-Houston National Chapter and welcomed all NAWMBA members who are graduating this December to stay involved by becoming members of the National Chapter. It was great to celebrate the end of the semester with everyone and NAWMBA also collected quite the collection of toys for the NAWMBA Toy Drive!
Shideezhi Project - November 2011
The NAWMBA University of Houston Chapter sent 15 members to the Navajo Reservation to mentor at risk teens November 2011 to participate in the National Shideezhi Project! Shideezhí means “my little sister” in the Navajo language. The Shideezhí Project is an outreach initiative of the National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA) to provide mentoring and guidance to at-risk Navajo high school girls, and now boys, on the Navajo Reservation as a means of inspiring and motivating them to realize their career potential and break the cycle of poverty in which they live. The Shideezhí Project has opened up the opportunity for male members to participate and we are proud to have three male members attending! Our fifteen members committing their time to these high school students were:Trey Bhutta, Danielle Clooney, Lidiya Deane, Angelica Delgado, Elizabeth Garcia, Misbah Khatri, Kanika Mittal, Simmi Mulchandani, Rali Patel, Daniel Pinto, Ajit Patel, Alison Sandall, Kate Turner, Vijay Vangavetti and Heledana Woldegiorgis. The NAWMBA UH Chapter had the largest participation this year in number of total mentors and number of male mentors!
NAWMBA-UH Volunteers for Kids' Meals

Volunteers are needed to help prepare the 343,000 lunches Kids Meals delivers to children in the Houston area. Join us as we help this organization provide nutritious meals to the homes of hungry children. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Company Visit to Exxon Mobil
On Monday, September 26, 2011 from 8:15 am-11:00 am, NAWMBA members and the Rockwell Career Center represented the University of Houston at the 800 Bell St. Houston, TX Exxon Mobil location. The company visit included breakfast & networking, a corporate overview of Exxon Mobil, a short service panel, and the opportunity to connect with speakers and recruiters, including Marcella Foreman and Starlet Agrella of Exxon Mobil.
2011 NAWMBA National Conference & Career Fair
Held at the brand new Irving Convention Center in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of Texas, September 15-17, the conference provided leadership, networking and career opportunities. The 2011 Conference and Career Fair “Are you Ready?” was designed to assist women, both students and professionals, as they continue along the journey to develop and enhance their leadership skills.The conference promoted professional and personal development through leadership interaction, workshop sessions, seminars, industry panels, networking events, and a career fair.

Ann Taylor Brand/Image Event
The NAWMBA 2011 Ann Taylor Brand/Image Event was a private event held especially for NAWMBA members after hours from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Ann Taylor Galleria Mall location. Donna Grady, from the Rockwell Career Center, presented the Do's and Don'ts of how to present yourself in a professional manner. Members were then able to browse the store with the help of personal stylists to select either 1, 2, or 3+ items for discounts of 20%, 25% and 40%. Snacks and refreshments were also provided. We had a dozen members in attendance and some great items were purchased!
Resume Refine and Wine 2011-Brasil
The NAWMBA Resume Refine & Wine allows NAWMBA members to have their resumes reviewed by professionals in a relaxed and fun environment.
NAWMBA held this year's event at Brasil from 4:30pm to 7:30 pm on Friday, September 9th, 2011. There were 5 professionals from consulting firms, recruiting firms, and the Rockwell Career Center. Food and wine was provided and the overall atmosphere was relaxed, informative, and inviting. The format of the event had each professional stationed at a table while NAWMBA members rotated around to each professional to gain exposure and have his or her resume reviewed.
