Voting for the 2013-2014 Board is officially closed.



The following board positions are up for election for the 2013-2014 year. In addition to specific role responsibilities, board members must be able to attend mandatory bi-monthly board meetings and at least 75% of the planned events. If you are interested in applying to join the board, please email your resume, letter of interest and a short bio for our website to president@uhnawmba.org by February 22, 2013. On March 4th, 2013, candidates will give a speech to the general body and polls will then open for election.



PRESIDENT
The President shall serve as the chief executive officer of the organization, shall preside at all meetings of the organization and shall prepare and share the agenda for meetings with the Board and members of MBAWI-UH accordingly. The President shall be the official spokesperson of the organization, representing the policies, views, and opinions of the organization in its relations with the campus and community at large. The President will follow up and ensure all board officers are managing her responsibilities accordingly and will complete performance reviews as needed. The President will enforce appropriate consequences to under-performing officers, as agreed upon the entire board, with the ultimate replacement of an under-performing officer as needed. The President shall review/promote all committees as needed. The President shall be an ex officio member of all committees. The President shall have such further powers and duties as may be prescribed by the organization.

Sarah Burge is running for the position of President for the 2013-2014 term. She has previously served on the board as the V.P. of Technology and has become increasingly committed to the current and future success of MBA Women International. As President, Sarah hopes to guide the organization towards a clear strategy that takes advantage of our strengths and positions MBAWI for increasing success with new opportunities.

Fun Fact: Sarah loves to cook and try new cuisines, especially when paired with traveling.

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT
The Executive Vice President is primarily responsible for coordinating the logistics of all events as needed. This role collaborates strongly with the Executive V.P. of Professional Development for workshops/seminars, etc., with the Executive V.P. of Mentorship for Mentoring Program Events, with the Executive V.P. of Membership for Rush Week and recruitment events, and all other programs as needed based on the events being scheduled by the Board. This role also plans/promotes social events as needed and will attend and organize MBA orientation and Rush Week during the fall and spring semesters. The Executive V.P. will work alongside counterparts in the Bauer MBA Society to plan joint events, and will work with the neighboring MBAWI Chapters as needed. The Executive V.P. will work side by side with the V.P. of Community Outreach in the planning/execution of all events, and the primary responsibilities of the V.P. of Community Outreach will be philanthropy related and will reach out to the community through public relations efforts to promote the MBAWI-UH brand and attract external interest for our organization.

Elizabeth would be a great person to fill the position of EVP for 2013 - 2014 term. She is passionate about MBAWI, experienced in project management, and has been on the MBAWI board for the past year. Elizabeth is ready to help make next year a great experience for members, and wants to work with the board and members to ensure MBAWI can help them achieve their full potential while at Bauer.

Fun Fact: Elizabeth is a Texas A&M Nationally Ranked Soil Judger. 

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE
The Executive Vice President of Finance shall handle all financial affairs and budgeting of the organization, maintain all necessary accounting records, and prepare monthly financial reports for the membership. The Executive V.P. of Finance shall collect and deposit all dues and fees as well as maintain bank accounts in the organization’s name, requiring signatures of both the President and Executive Vice President for authorized disbursements. The Executive V.P. of Finance is also responsible for maintaining a budget throughout the academic year and managing the fundraising efforts of the organization. Fundraising efforts include, but are not limited to: opera ticket sales, auctions, raffles or fundraising events partnering with local businesses. Lastly, the Executive V.P. of Finance will collaborate with the Executive V.P. of Professional Development to promote corporate sponsorship support/funding. It is up to the entire board to create a strategy of how to develop corporate relations with companies in Houston, and it is up to the Executive V.P. of Finance and Professional Development to execute that strategy.

Sein Myint is running for Executive Vice President of Finance. After becoming a member of MBA WI in the Fall of 2012, I was impressed by the goal, culture,
and structure of the organization, which encouraged me to seek for a position on the board with the organization. He has completed investment projects for his finance classes, strategic planning and modeling assignments for his economic classes. Not only has Sein done finance related projects academically, he has also obtained experiences in helping clients to manage their financial portfolios, and to construct suitable investment strategies from his current full-time position. Sein expects to see an increase in the number of male representatives in the organization looking forward.

Fun Fact : Sein actually learned how to make chocolate chip cookies from scratch.

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING
The Executive Vice President of Marketing shall be responsible for designing and implementing the marketing plan, drafting and disseminating newsletters and designing and disseminating publications for events. The VP of Marketing is also responsible for working with various board members as needed to ensure corporate sponsors are adequately represented in marketing materials. Responsibilities include: the creation of newsletters, marketing materials, flyers and promotional items. The Executive V.P. of Marketing will also forward all materials to the V.P. of Communications and the V.P. of Membership for distribution to all members via all relevant social media outlets, including: internal communications, Facebook, LinkedIn, and the www.uhnawmba.org website.

VICE PRESIDENT OF COMMUNICATIONS
The Vice President of Communications shall handle all internal communications and will review all marketing materials created by the Executive V.P. of Marketing before forwarding to MBAWI-UH members. The V.P. of Communications will also work closely with the V.P. of Membership to ensure member lists are accurate and up to date. The V.P. of Communications will continue to manage Board email accounts and set up all new internal communication requirements and aid in the transition from previous Board members to new Board members at the end of the spring semester each year. All communications to be forwarded to general body members (excluding event-specific member lists to be handled by the main contact for that specific event) will be sent to the V.P. of Communications for review/corrections first, before being forwarded to final general body recipients.

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Vice President of Professional Development will be primarily in charge of developing a corporate outreach strategy and for identifying companies to target who fit with the mission and strategic goals of the organization. She will find companies to participate in company visits, organize workshops/seminars and promote other professional development events as needed. The Executive V.P. of Professional Development oversees programs and events that develop students professionally and personally through professional and philanthropic programs, collaborating with the V.P. of Community Outreach and the Executive V.P. as needed to execute each event. The goal of this role is to secure two company visits per semester (minimum) and one professional development workshop or seminar per semester (minimum).

Rachel Flye is running for the board position of Executive Vice President of Professional Development. She is honored to be a part of an organization that is geared towards empowering women in pursuit of their MBAs and plans on expanding these efforts into the 2013-2014 school year. A driving factor in running for this position is her genuine interest in developing the talent of our MBAWI members. She plans to actively pursue development activities that will help vest our organization and its student members with experiences to sharpen their skills and develop outside the classroom.

Fun Fact: Rachel loves to travel; she has been to most U.S. states, Canada, Caribbean, and China.

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF MENTORSHIP
The Executive Vice President of Mentorship will be primarily in charge of coordinating and running the Mentorship Program. The Executive V.P. of Mentorship will collaborate extensively with the Executive V.P., Executive V.P. of Finance, Executive V.P. of Professional Development, and the rest of the board as needed to ensure the smooth coordination and execution of the Mentorship Program. The Executive V.P. of Mentorship will also manage the protégé and mentor relationships. Committees are strongly encouraged to support the Mentorship Program, with the continued support of the President and the rest of the Board. The Executive V.P. of Professional Development will also oversee the assembly and management of the Mentoring Program Booklet that will be made available both in a hard copy and as a digital electronic flipbook.

Emily Hannigan is running for Executive Vice President of Mentorship. She is running for this position because she has had a positive experience with the mentorship program this past academic year. Emily is a good fit because she wants to see the program continue to thrive and ensure that other members of MBAWI get the experience that she had. Emily sees MBAWI strengthening its ties to the Houston business community and MBAWI’s professional chapter in the future.

Fun Fact: Emily has taken ballet classes since she was 7. Emily considers ballet the best way to relax after a long day.
